Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Check_throat Consultations are by appointment only.

Appointments can be booked in advance or you can book on the day.

To book an an appointment in advance please telephone the practice during our opening times.

To book an appointment on the day please telephone at 8.00am Monday to Friday.

For an urgent appointment please telephone as early as possible for the morning and at 2.30pm for the afternoon.

If you have a medically urgent need to see a GP we will endeavour to see you the same day. In order to keep within the above targets we ask you to cancel your appointment as soon as you realise you are unable to keep it. Patients who fail to turn up for their appointments are preventing other patients from receiving the care they need.

Home Visits

Home visits are for housebound patients and those genuinely too ill to travel to the practice. It is perfectly safe to bring a child with a rash or temperature to the practice. Home visits take up a lot of the doctor’s time; we can see four or five patients at the practice in the time it takes to make one call. It would be helpful if requests for home visits could be made before 10.00am. Please try to get to the practice if you can. The receptionist will ask for brief details of your problem and for your telephone number.

Telephone Advice

We prefer not to be interrupted when we are with patients and so, unless the problem is very urgent, you may be asked to phone back at a more convenient time.
