Do not be surprised if your doctor does not give you a prescription. Most common, simple illnesses get better without any treatment at all. In particular, antibiotics will not cure viral infections. Indeed, they may make you feel worse. The symptoms of common illnesses may be helped by simple remedies such as aspirin (not for children under 16, please) or paracetamol, which all households should stock. Your local pharmacist will always be happy to advise. Hay fever treatment for all over the age of six can be obtained from the pharmacist. The 'morning after' pill is effective taken up to 72 hours later.
